Women’s Football Skinner signs new contract with Man United until 2027

MANCHESTER UNITED boss Marc Skinner has signed a new contract with the club running to June 2027, with the option of an extra year.

The 42-year-old is in his fourth season in the job, having succeeded Casey Stoney in the summer of 2021, and guided United to their first major trophy last term when they won the FA Cup.

Skinner said in a statement from United: “It has been an absolute privilege to serve as head coach for this fantastic football club for the past four years, and I am delighted to be extending my time in the role for at least a further two years.

“We are building a young, hungry team with the aim of challenging consistently for further trophies.

“There is still more hard work ahead, including this season, but the players and staff have already shown their determination to succeed, and I am looking forward to us taking the next steps in our journey together.”

After finishing fourth in their first campaign under Skinner, United then came second behind Chelsea in the Women’s Super League in 2023, as well as finishing as runners-up in the FA Cup, losing 1-0 to the Blues in the final.

A year later they claimed the cup with a 4-0 victory over Tottenham at Wembley, but ended the season fifth in the league, while their Champions League campaign saw them eliminated in the qualifying rounds by Paris St Germain.

They are currently on track to qualify for the Champions League next term, lying third in the WSL, level on points with second-placed Arsenal — six behind leaders Chelsea — and seven clear of fourth-placed Manchester City with four games to go. They are also through to the FA Cup semi-finals, in which they face City away next week.

United technical director Jason Wilcox said: “Marc’s record since taking charge speaks for itself, having delivered our first major women’s silverware and firmly established us among the leading teams in the WSL.

“After a major overhaul last summer, we have an exciting, developing squad ready to compete for further success, and we are convinced that Marc is the right coach to lead that process.”

United chief operating officer Collette Roche said: “Building a successful and popular women’s team is an important part of our wider, football-first strategy for the club.

“We appreciate the contribution that Marc has already made towards that goal, and we are delighted that he will continue to play a key role in the drive to put Manchester United at the forefront of growth in the women’s game.”
